Can you tell me why you have been so sad?

Death Cab For Cutie - Death of an Interior Decorator
from the album Transatlanticism (Barsuk, 2003)

A great song which I never thought much aboth until today when it suddenly stood out from the rest on the record. Funny how that is, take a record you have listened to alot in the past and put it on after some while. Suddenly you see the songs in a whole different way.

This song apparantly is based on the Woody Allen movie Interiors, which I haven't seen but will be checking out soon, much because of this song.

"You were the mother of three girls so sweet
Who stormed through your turnstile
And climbed to the street
But after conception your body lay cold
And withered through autumn and you found yourself old

Can you tell me why you have been so sad?
He took a lover on a faraway beach
While you arrange flowers and chose color schemes"
