Innlandet Hestejazz Society | Moonshine Blends Vol. 8

Naturally, the bond between American folk music and British folk music is strong, and they have (again, naturally) a lot in common. The British folk rock/west coast scene resulted in some amazing albums, that we love to play on a Hestejazz night. One thing I love about the sound, is the rawness. Like Heron and Ronnie Lane recording songs and albums outside, to get that nature feel.

One album that I recently discovered, is Keith West’s Wherever My Love Goes from 1974. West was a member of British psych rock behemoths Tomorrow, but on this album he shows his mellow side. Like a mix between Gene Clark and Ronnie Lane. Mesmerizing stuff indeed. Stian included West’s later project Moonrider in the previous blend, that helped me discover this lost classic.

Other personal faves includes good ol’ Ronnie Lane, Ian Matthews (his version of The Dan’s Dirty Work is so good), and Ernie Graham. Last, but not least, we find another psych gang getting out their steel guitars, the almighty Mighty Baby.

Take a walk in the fields with this mix on, and take it easy. Keep on juggin’!

Innlandet Hestejazz Society is a moniker that my good friend David Jønsson and me use when we are dj'ing around Oslo. Though to call it dj'ing might be an overstatement, we play records and have a good time. As crate diggers and heads we were drawn to the country-rock and the flying freak flags when we met behind the counter of a record store many years ago. Moonshine Blends are mixes of tunes we would have played in bars, but since we are confined to our own living rooms we are putting them up on the net for everyones pleasure. So tune in for some vibey west coast, hillbilly hobnobs, no-depression and blue collar country. Jerry Garcia, Johnny Paycheck and Jeff Tweedy hand in hand. Keep on truckin'!
