Innlandet Hestejazz Society | Soft Focus | Moonshine Blends Vol. 11

Song Power. That's what Glenn Frey's t-shirt said in the early seventies. You can say what you want about the Eagles, but they sure did have some songs. That's what it's all about for me. The songs. I think maybe that's why I've always liked the period where the country rock devoloped in to the slicker soft rock sounds of the mid to late seventies.

There is a lot of the usual suspects on this mix. Some big hits and some that should have been hits. A lot of the same musicians show up in different songs, either as back-up singers or writers. The Laurel Canyon-scenesters are all over this. Joni with Jimmy Webb, Graham Nash with Ned Doheny and Dan Fogelberg. The Byrds and Burritos alumni Hillman and Michael Clarke turn up more times than one, so does Rick Roberts from the Burritos and Firefall. Firefall is sort of the natural progression from the country rock scene to the soft rock scene. We even make as stop in Norway and Australia this time.

It was some of the most popular music in the seventies. Just please don't call it yacht rock. Call it song power!

Innlandet Hestejazz Society is a moniker that my good friend David Jønsson and me use when we are dj'ing around Oslo. Though to call it dj'ing might be an overstatement, we play records and have a good time. As crate diggers and heads we were drawn to the country-rock and the flying freak flags when we met behind the counter of a record store many years ago. Moonshine Blends are mixes of tunes we would have played in bars, but since we are confined to our own living rooms we are putting them up on the net for everyones pleasure. So tune in for some vibey west coast, hillbilly hobnobs, no-depression and blue collar country. Jerry Garcia, Johnny Paycheck and Jeff Tweedy hand in hand. Keep on truckin'!
