Innlandet Hestejazz Society | Moonshine Blends Vol. 14

Hestejazzen goes "Rural-Britannia" part two. A mix of mostly obscure bands and artists, though they really shouldn't be. The thing about the folk-rock scene in the UK in the late sixties, early seventies that I've really fallen in love with over the years is the love affair they had with the US west coast/country-rock sound. So you got the US influences blending in with the british folk and their hang to record things outside with the birds chirpin' along.

This time though we are heavy in the pub rock scene which is what all of those country-rock/folkies evolved in to. To really set the bar room feeling we start of with wild boys in Faces. Lotsa tunes for the heads. Ernie Graham-era Help Yourself channeling CSN and Bronco going all Dead with their beautiful and head-y jamming in Tell Me Why. Linda and Sandy are present. Good ol' Richard Thompson can be found in more than a few of these tunes. The legendary Mighty Baby are hiding In the Mud with him and yes, that is Martin Stone in the Chili Willies (the NPRS of Britain?) as well. Such a dude.

"Been worried about my babies, been worried about my wife
Just one place to be for a man when he's worried about his life
I'm going home, hey, hey, hey, over the hill.."

Keep calm and carry on.

Innlandet Hestejazz Society is a moniker that my good friend David Jønsson and me use when we are dj'ing around Oslo. Though to call it dj'ing might be an overstatement, we play records and have a good time. As crate diggers and heads we were drawn to the country-rock and the flying freak flags when we met behind the counter of a record store many years ago. Moonshine Blends are mixes of tunes we would have played in bars, but since we are confined to our own living rooms we are putting them up on the net for everyones pleasure. So tune in for some vibey west coast, hillbilly hobnobs, no-depression and blue collar country. Jerry Garcia, Johnny Paycheck and Jeff Tweedy hand in hand. Keep on truckin'!
